Enmore Newsletter 006 - April 2011Some of the key changes with the new 6.x LTS system softwareThis April Newsletter is very much a last minute thing since we have been very busy the last few weeks upgrading the last few of our, more complex, 3.x sites to the new 6.x LTS system software. It therefore seems appropriate to devote this month's Newsletter to providing a short summary of two of the key changes made available with the new system software. New WYSIWYG Editor This much enhanced WYSIWYG editing capability was described in our October 2010 blog post so you can read some more detail there, but the principle improvements are:
In addition the WYSIWYG editor can now be used with just about all the system features, whereas it could only be used with Wiki pages and Blogs previously. Significantly it can now be used to compose Newsletters which makes it much simpler to create more creatively 'styled' content that will be successfully displayed in email software clients such as Outlook - and Enmore now uses this facility extensively for our own Newsletters. Wiki Plugins With the integration of Wiki plugins into the editor, the use of the dedicated Plugin Editor now makes the use of Plugins much easier since you do not need to remember all the various complex parameters available for each Plugin. We are therefore now promoting the use of a wider range of Plugins as follows: BOX: creates a formatted box for content on a page where you can easily add a title bar, adjust the background colour and the width of the box. CALENDAR: displays a reduced size calendar format with the events from one or more calendars on it. COLORBOX: displays an image from a File Gallery and when you click on it, it opens a popup/slideshow of all the images in the same Gallery. COUNTDOWN: displays a countdown to a future date. FILE: displays a link to: a file in a File Gallery; or an attachment to a Wiki page; or a file in a specific archive. FOOTNOTE and FOOTNOTEAREA: work together to create automatically numbered footnotes. The superscript footnote numbers and associated text are set with the FOOTNOTE Plugin and they are displayed using the FOOTNOTEAREA Plugin. GOOGLEMAP: will display a Google map in a Wiki page . IFRAME: is used to display the body of another web site/page in a Wiki page. Read more at the April 2011 blog post. INCLUDE: is used to include the contents of another Wiki page. MOUSEOVER: displays hidden content by 'mousing over' a link to show a popup. SORT: allows you to sort lines of text alphabetically in ascending or descending order, reverse the current sorting or randomly shuffle them. TABS: is used to arrange content into separate tabs on your Wiki page. TOC: is now available with more extensive options for automatically inserting linkable Tables of Content for Wiki pages that are part of a Structure. Read more at the February 2011 blog post. As shown above for a couple of these Wiki Plugins we have already provided a link to a blog post where they are described in more detail and we will aim to create blog posts on all these Plugins over time. Meanwhile if you would like to learn more about Plugins or the new WYSIWYG editor then please contact us.
