Enmore Newsletter 003 - January 2011
The Managed Web Support Service Framework
This month's Newsletter describes how a Managed Web Support service can start as a very basic publishing web site and evolve into an extensive support, collaboration and business process management system.
The diagram below illustrates how an Enmore Service Framework has now been established so that an initial system deployment can be at any level in the framework, such as supporting Document Management, but it can extend and evolve as the business requires additional functionality.
This flexibility is achieved by the modular nature of the opensource system software and configuration standards we have developed that integrate the various levels of the Enmore Service Framework.
-
The simplest deployment, using the Web Management tools, allows a publishing web site i.e. one accessible by anyone from the internet, to be deployed where the content can be easily maintained. A new, low cost Web Management service, specifically aimed at this entry level, has recently been launched and is described in more detail in this Blog posting.
-
If Secure Access Control is added to the service mix, a sophisticated set of access control mechanisms can be used to allow different Groups of users to securely and selectively access their own content. These Groups are customised to the specific needs of each client and due to the very 'fine-grained' permission levels available, each Group can have a unique set of permissions configured to be able to use, edit, etc., each feature of the system. This additional level in the Service Framework then enables a more sophisticated on-line support environment to be deployed for various business partners and allows private on-line collaboration between different users.
-
Once full access control is in place a number of Packaged Solutions can be deployed which configure the wide range of available features in specific ways. Two packages, which provide a base to further applications, are:
-
Document Management: discussed in detail in last month's Newsletter, delivers a highly customisable set of capabilities where designated groups of users can easily and securely access/share their own individual documents and each set of documents can be managed through a life cycle from origination, through multiple amendments, and then subsequent withdrawal from use; plus
-
Contact Management: allows the details of, and the contact with, various organisations to be tracked, along with individuals who are in each organisation. This was briefly described in a 2010 Blog post and we will focus on this topic in more detail in next month's Newsletter.
-
Each of the further applications that focus on business functional areas will be the topic of future Newsletters, but in summary each functional area has an evolving set of Packaged Solutions with some examples set out below:
-
Marketing & Strategy: Press/Media Management, Event Management, Competition Analysis
-
Sales & Support: Sales Management, Channel Support, Bid Management, Commercial/Contract Management, Customer Service
-
Products & Services: Research Coordination, Product Development, Product Management, Product Marketing
-
Supply Chain: Procurement Management, Supplier Management
